The game of golf has always been a part of head coach John Lay’s life.  From learning the game from his father as a child, to playing the game as an adult, Lay has been involved with the game for over 40 years. 

Lay has been the head golf coach at Middlesex since 2009, taking over from James Kahora, who established the program and laid the foundation that Lay has built upon.

Lay has taught the game since 1972, when he took the job as the golf professional at Ash Brook Golf Club.  After leaving in 1976 to establish his career in transportation, Lay taught at Westfield and Cranford adult schools. 

Lay has also competed at the amateur level, winning events in New Jersey.  Lay attended Wesleyan College in West Virginia, playing golf all four years and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a dual minor in Psychology and Education.
