Since coming on as the head coach for the Lady Colts women’s basketball program in 2006, Michel Powell has promoted hard work and a competitive spirit that has helped to make Middlesex a perennial contender in Region XIX of the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC).

As a coach, Powell has won the GSAC at Essex County College prior to taking the job at Middlesex, recruiting top players to compete, both on the floor and in the classroom.  As a player, Powell played at Union County College and transferred to Kean University, where she was a member of the 1987 women’s basketball team that reached the NCAA Division III Final Four.

Along with coaching at Middlesex, Powell is a Physical Education teacher at St. Mary of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth.  She is also a mother to one son, Charlie.
