How do I apply for Financial Aid?

Applying for Financial Aid is a three-step process.

We recommend you apply for financial aid online, because it speeds up the process.  If you apply online, the Department of Education usually processes your application and sends it to us within 1-2 weeks. If you apply using a paper application, the process generally takes 6-8 weeks.

  1. The first step is to apply for a Federal PIN for yourself (and your parent).  To do this visit www.pin.ed.gov.  The Pin number is used to sign the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Your parent will be required to fill out a section of the financial aid application unless you can answer "Yes" to one of the following questions:

    • Were you born before January 1, 1988 ?
    • Are you married?
    • Do you have any children that you provide more than half of their support ?
    • Do you have any dependents other than children that live with you and you provide more than half of their support%?
    • Are both of your parents deceased, were you in foster care, or are you an orphan or ward of the court?
    • Are you currently serving on active duty in the US Armed Forces for purposes other than training?
    • Are you a veteran of the US Armed Forces?
    • Are you in a legal guardianship as determined by a court?
    • At any time on or after July 1, 2009, did  your high school or school district homeless liaison, HUD, director of a runaway or homeless youth basic center, or transitional living program determine that you were an unaccompanied youth who was homeless or at risk of being homeless?

  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The FAFSA will determine all types of financial aid that you are eligible for.  This includes federal grants (such as Federal Pell & Academic Competetive Grant(ACG) ), New Jersey state grants (such as TAG -Tuition Aid Grant), and student loans. The Federal School code for Middlesex County College is 002615.

  3. The final step in applying for financial aid is to follow up with the Middlesex County College Financial Aid office. Students may be required to submit a copy of your (and your parent's) prior year federal tax returns and complete a Verfication Worksheet. Other documents such as proof of citizenship, your social security card, etc. may be requested by our office. We cannot process your financial aid application until all required documents have been submitted.
