MCC Gains National Certification in Solar Electronics Education

Middlesex County College is now authorized to offer a course, "Introduction to Solar Electric Systems," which is recognized by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). Middlesex is the only educational institution in New Jersey certified as a registered provider of the NABCEP Photo Voltaic Entry Level exam.

"As the nation becomes more environmentally conscious, the need for people to work with solar energy has increased," said Patricia Moran, director of the College's Institute for Management and Technical Development, the department that handles customized training for business. "Our course reviews the current financial incentives governing the installation of solar electric systems provided by the Renewable Energy Incentive Plan of New Jersey, and assists workers who are preparing for jobs in renewable energy. Middlesex County College recognized this trend and developed a program to meet the needs of the workforce."

NABCEP, a volunteer board of renewable energy stakeholder representatives, includes the solar industry, NABCEP-certified professionals, renewable energy organizations, state policy makers, educational institutions and the trades. The board's goal is to develop voluntary national certification programs that promote renewable energy, provide value to practitioners, support worker safety and skill, and enhance consumer education.
