"Give Kids a Smile Day," an annual event at the College, provides free dental care and dental education to area children. Local dentists, hygienists, and dental auxiliary students and alumnae volunteered their time and talents February 5.
They treated 94 children who received an exam, a cleaning, fluoride treatments, x-rays, sealants, as well as education on how to brush and floss. Those who needed it had cavities filled and extractions performed. The effort was equivalent of $72,600 worth of free dental care. The College was one of 83 locations throughout New Jersey that helped brighten children's smiles that day.
The program also included a session on dental education. Above, from left, the tooth fairy, Nicole Williams, and her puppet friend talk about the proper way to brush teeth. She is joined by Joye Cora, posing as a giant tooth, Brianna Nieves and College President Joann La Perla-Morales. At left, Kylie Murtha admires her smile as dental assistant Priya Kannusamy, a 2006 Middlesex graduate, looks on.
