Middle States Brief
By Ron Goldfarb
As the College moves toward accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in 2011, Ron Goldfarb, one of the chairpersons of the Middle States Steering Committee, will be updating the College community with this column each month.
We are at a crucial point in the Middle States process. The first draft of the reports prepared by the 14 Work Groups has just been completed and is being reviewed by the Steering Committee. After consultation with the Work Group chairs, a second draft will be completed during the first week of April.
The 120 active members of the Steering Committee and Work Groups have been assisted by nearly the same number of members of the campus community who have responded to requests for data, provided other information, and reviewed individual sections of the report. Everyone on campus will soon have another opportunity to play a big role in the Self-Study process.
On Monday, April 19, there will an Open Forum from 4-6 p.m. in College Center 319-321. It is hoped that this time will allow many people to participate. For those who can't make it that day, all of the Work Group second drafts will be posted on an MCC Middle States website that is under development. Electronic responses will be solicited and considered along with all of those presented at the Open Forum.
During the latter part of April and into May, the Work Groups will prepare what we are calling the final version of their reports. Past experience suggests that there will likely be some additional changes and additions. Your comments will help mold the reports that will lead to the first draft of the Self-Study.
