College to Host Contemporary Art Exhibit
Nov 8, 2010
An exhibit entitled “1°” will be held at Middlesex County College from November 18 through December 22 at the College’s Studio Theatre Gallery on the Edison campus. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
A reception, open to the public, will be Thursday, November 18 from 5 to 7 p.m.
“1° addresses the relationship between pedagogy, style and interpersonal relationships,” said Joe Pflieger, an adjunct professor of art at the College and one of the curators. “It is an instructive experiment that presents the work of 10 artists and educators who are all within one degree of separation. The issues of one’s peer group, education, competiveness and inspiration are addressed as a means of defining an art practice.”
The exhibition will also feature a lecture titled “Social Networks, Art Institutions and the Rise of DIY Art Schools” by Philip Vanderhyden, co-curator and adjunct professor of art. The lecture will be held Thursday, November 18 at 11:15 a.m. in Edison Hall room 167.
The exhibit includes painting, sculpture, and mixed media and includes the following artists: Ethan Breckenridge, Zach Buchner, Chris Dorland, Karl Erickson, Andrew Falkowski, Michelle Grabner, Judy Ledgerwood, Jose Lerma, Mark Schubert and Matt Stolle. It is curated by Professor Pflieger and Professor Vanderhyden.
