Steps to Getting Started at MCC

STEP 1
: Apply for Veterans entitlements

Application can be done two ways:

1) You can make an application for education entitlements online through VONAPP, the VA’s electronic application web site,

For more information, go to http://www.gibill.va.gov/GI_Bill_Info/How_to_Apply.htm

Middlesex County College cannot make determinations of eligibility. Entitlement programs change frequently, so it’s important to go directly to the VA for questions about these programs. The toll-free VA Education telephone number is: 1-888-442-4551 (press 1 for touch tone and then 0 to reach a counselor).  OR, go to the GI Bill web site to read about VA entitlements and education programs: www.gibill.va.gov

STEP 2: Apply to Middlesex County College

You will need to apply to Middlesex County College and pre-register for your classes before the school can certify your enrollment.  Start by applying to MCC via the online application at www.middlesexcc.edu.

STEP 3: Financial Aid

You should apply for Financial Aid through the FAFSA web site at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

STEP 4: Take the Accuplacer Test

Once a student applies to the college they are required to take the Accuplacer Test.  Middlesex County College requires that incoming students be evaluated in reading, writing, and mathematics skills. A College Placement Test is given to determine skill levels in these areas and to help place students in the courses appropriate to their background and needs.  The Accuplacer test is done at your own pace, and you should expect to take approximately 3 hours to complete the exam.  Once you apply to the college you will receive a acceptance letter in approximately 4-5 weeks that will provide you with further information regarding testing.  Visit our Placement Testing website for more information: click here

If you have a disability and need testing accommodations (i.e. extended time) please call Disability Services at 732.906.2546.  You must submit appropriate and timely disability documentation in order to access accommodations.

STEP 5: New Student Orientation

Once you complete the placement test you will be asked to register for one of our New Student Orientation dates.  During Orientation, you will meet with an academic advisor, register for classes and learn from other students and professionals about life at MCC. Orientations will take place at the Edison campus, the New Brunswick campus, and the Perth Amboy campus.

STEP 6: Meet with an MCC Veterans Certifying Official

Once you are registered for classes, stop by the Center for Veterans Services to see one of our Veterans Certifying Officials. You can contact the Center for Veterans Services via e-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by calling 732.906.7770.

The Center for Veterans Services certifies the enrollment status of all students who apply for veterans entitlements at Middlesex County College.  In order to be certified for veterans’ entitlements, students must submit the following documents:

  1. A certified copy of your DD 214 form, or “Notice of Basic Eligibility” (NOBE)

  2. A printed copy of your online application through VONAPP, the VA’s electronic application web site, or a copy of your "Certificate of Eligibility".  VONAPP is available at: http://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/main.asp

  3. The Middlesex County College Veterans’ Certification Request form is available in the Center for Veterans Services, Edison Hall room 104. This form must be filed each semester when requesting entitlements.

** If you have used VA entitlements at another school:
You’ll need to fill out VA Form 22-1995  or VA Form 22-5495 if you are  using Chapter 35 as survivor or dependent of a veteran.
